V/A - Rush For Black Celebration - Russian Industrial Depeche Mode Tribute As far as tribute compilations go, the Russian music collective kultFRONT can be said to have hit the nail squarely in the head with their industrial tribute to Depeche Mode, epitomizing what music tributes should be - manifestations of new artistic paths made possible thanks to the inspirational work of the artists being paid homage. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_rfbc.htm
b°tong - Structures b°tong has successfully juxtaposed, combined and shifted between a duality of opposing concepts. At times, this is clearly recognizable but eventually - beyond the clichés - one ends up unsure of which of two opposites is really at hand. Along with a fair potential for listener immersion, "Structures" has some discomforting and exciting moments to offer. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_btong_s.htm

Andrew Sega & Reagan Jones - Iris Now separated by a few thousand miles, with Jones remaining in Texas and Sega in Chicago, they put their heads together to answer some questions regarding their history, influences, new material, and attitudes on running one's own label. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_iris.htm
Reviews
Standeg - Ultra High Tech Violet Despite these similarities with their alma mater, Standeg show enough of their own creativity and expertise to make "Ultra High Tech Violet" a winner in its own right. This is the real dark side of the force, and it's excellent. If it wasn't for the over-dependence on their previous successes as a foundation element of Haujobb, "Ultra High Tech Violet" would be perfect. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_standeg_uhtv.htm
Die Baader-Meinhof Gruppe/Red Army Faction - Die Baader-Meinhof Gruppe/Red Army Faction While quite a few people would certainly beg to differ, it would seem that at least one good thing came out of Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof's 'career' if, through their actions and ideology, they managed to inspire the creation of a piece of work such as this album. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_baadermeinhofgruppe_dbmgraf.htm
Knar / Mr. Genetor - Split CD[/i] Whether viewed as a holistic entity or as individual offerings, Knar and Mr Genetor have created one of the better examples of contemporary noisy IDM available today. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_scd.htm

| Connexion Bizarre was updated on January 19th with quite a bit of new content, including a new online compilation release. A quick overview of this week's update:
Webcast: "People Theatre @ Connexion Bizarre" with music selection by Peter Rainman & Eric S. of People Theatre and "Hip-Hop Special" with music selection by Machinochrist Release: Various "You Are Here: a compilation of Illinois Electronics" Interview: Keef Baker Reviews: Protoplasmic Reversion "Sunken Temples", Körperwlten "Avatars Of Rape And Rage", Techny-Call X "Evolution", Blipvert "Stop:Stronk:Explode!"
By the way, I will be travelling in the next couple of weeks. Despite trying to have some update material ready in advance (namely webcasts) to have things running in auto-pilot as much as possible, there may be a couple of delays with updates. Things should be back to normal after my return.

Releases
Various - You Are Here: a Compilation of Illinois Electronics Free online release showcasing a variety of musical talent from the underground electronic music scene of the US state of Illinois. Compiled by Chicago-based DJ/label-owner Paul Nielsen alias DJ Synctank. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/releases/n_cb009_va_yahacoie.htm
Interviews
Keef Baker - Slowly turning Mr Snugglebunny's Happy Paradise inside out Since his debut release in 2004 of "The Widnes Years", Keef has gone from strength to strength in his music, and has now reached album number four in the form of "Pen Fifteen" - a double album laced with extreme b.p.m. counts, strange track titles, and 60 minute dancefloor-friendly anthems, amongst the gorgeous downtempo electronica Keef has become renowned for in the last few years. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_keefbaker.htm
Reviews
Protoplasmic Reversion - Sunken Temples The strength of "Sunken Temples" lies within its ability to take me on a sonic journey from frozen barbarian lands to zombie infested arid wastelands, to ziggurats abandoned by civilizations, past all without resorting to relying on instruments typically associated with such places. Proving that the sense of dread and isolation has accompanied mankind since the dawn of time. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_protoplasmicreversion_st.htm
Körperwelten - Avatars Of Rape And Rage Listening to "Avatars Of Rape And Rage" it falls a little short of the product Folkstorm and NTT fans may be awaiting. There is a vague feeling that the personalities of Nordvargr and Leech cannot be heard as vividly as on their respective solo releases, giving the impression of some new and separate project of just above average quality. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_korperwelten_aorar.htm
Techny-Call X - Evolution Coming across originally as France's answer to Rammstein, this electro-metal-industrial outfit is actually fairly good at what they're doing, despite the fact that it has all been done before. And, sadly, it was all done quite some time ago. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_technycallx_e.htm
Blipvert - Stop:Stronk:Explode! Words that immediately spring to mind when describing Blipvert are disorientating, experimental and varied. Other words would be irritating, boring and uninspiring. But take a moment to appreciate the album's artwork, which is suitably disturbing and sinisterly whimsical enough to garner it a special mention. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_blipvert_sse.htm

Skyd - Pharmafabrik Despite being active for over ten years, Pharmafabrik does not have anything ressembling an extensive discography. It is, instead more a case of focus and quality over quantity as its releases show and a label geared towards the vision of its creator, a vision that can be understood through these label's sampler compilations. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_pharmafabrik.htm

NCE's music conveys strong, contrasting feelings elaborated and powered by dynamic programming and punchy rhythms. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_neoncageexperiment.htm ReviewsOvro - RevisitedOvro is very good at maintaining her anonymity, perhaps to retain focus on her music, only choosing to release new material from time to time. However, the music she does release keeps a watchful eye on quality. "Revisited" is an absorbing re-imagining of the "Estraier" EP with great depth that reveals new facets on every listen. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_ovro_r.htm Steel Hook Prostheses - AtrocitizerThe music contained in "Atrocitizer" stands out admirably above over-used power electronics imagery (photos of tortured prisoners, disabled children, etc) and shows some interesting variations away from the typical sounds of power electronics alongside a strength of performance which viciously beats down much of the competition in the genre. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_steelhookprostheses_a.htm V/A - Electr-Ohm Compilation 2Inami again produces an excellent collection of experimental electronica from a collection of lesser known artists from the Japanese electronic music scene. An interesting compilation of tracks that takes in abstract, glitch, rhythmic, ambient, noise and experimental aspects of electronic music at various points along its journey. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_eoc2.htm Shadow Theater - Live in KaiserslauternA disappointing offering. Unless you were lucky enough to experience the actual event, or one similar to it and are looking for some tangible memorabilia, this is not a disc worth owning. It does not do Shadow Project, or their unique artistic vision, any justice whatsoever. It is poorly filmed, recorded and produced. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_shadowtheater_lik.htm LinksRecently addedhttp://ex.tension.free.fr/ - Ex_Tension http://www.millimetric.com/ - Millimetric http://www.shunt.co.uk/ - Shunt, lounge and theater company Net releases spotlightBlack Juggernaut http://ikultura.net/j6/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1784&Itemid=76 - "Images Of Doom" (iKultura) Recommendedhttp://www.ikultura.net/ - Kultura Industrialna, Polish 'independent art blog' and netlabel

Interviews
C-drík a.k.a. Kirdec - an interview with Cedrik Fermont A Belgium based musician, producer and sometimes gig organizer and DJ who started to record industrial and noise music in 1989 with the band Crno Klank and since then played in many other projects and under different names and collaborated live or studio with many artists, in many styles such as electro-acoustic, noise, improv, digital punk, breakcore, electro and dark ambient. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_cdrik.htm
C-drík - Syrphe Syrphe (and Textolux) is a small label owned by C-drik (Crno klank, Ambre, Kirdec, Axiome, Tetra plok, Elekore and many others). It is mainly focused on electronic, experimental and noise music (in all meaning of the word) coming from all those lost islands the West seems to ignore: Africa, Asia, the Middle-East (...) but also C-drik's own productions. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_syrphe.htm
Reviews
Metaform - Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants While five years in the making, "Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants" arrives as a soulful and decidedly charming journey across decades of musical innovation that defines the true essence of a great electronic record. Admittedly this is one of the coolest albums to have been released in quite some time. Fans of DJ Shadow, RJD2, U.N.K.L.E., and even Four Tet are sure to fall in love with this release. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_metaform_sotsog.htm
ESA - The & The Silence Decidedly an intense release, "The Sea & The Silence" isn't an easy ride, but it is immensely satisfying and entertaining, and perhaps it will give rhythmic noise the shake-up it desperately needs. One can only look forward to seeing what ESA comes up with next. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_esa_tsats.htm
Zero Degree - The Inner Realm "The Inner Realm" is an well rendered and mesmerizing release that should be able to bridge the gap between a number of electronic music styles and draw in fans because of its excellence rather than its strict adherence to any narrow categorization. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_zerodegree_tir.htm
Heft vs. Scaffolding - We Will Diminish Both artists are faultlessly professional, and the label deserves credit for putting two very leftfield tracks on the same release as two much more conventional slices of DJ fodder. And then giving it away for free... http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_wwd.htm
Phragments - Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood As a well-refined performance of Phragments' trademark musical styles, based for the most part in sombre dark ambient building to more bombastic martial classical passages with forceful industrial touches, "Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood" is arguably one of the best ways to capture an effective sense of the immense tragedy that is genocide. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_phragments_esnctb.htm
Cacheflowe - Cache, Stacks & Queues EP Hailing from Colorado, via the Plastic Sound Supply label, CacheFlow makes hip-hop-tinged dubstep, avoiding the dirtier fringes of that genre in favour of more rounded analogue-style sounds and futuristic IDM glitch-beats. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_cacheflowe_csq.htm
Hansel - Reshaping Linear Formulai Hansel show some very real promise here, there are some fantastic tracks available here, but I'd like to see them focus on their more digital hardcore sound, rather than try and mix it up with their slightly more restrained fare. It's enough of a taster to make me want to go check out their other stuff though, and that's good enough for me. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_hansel_rlf.htm
MMMF - In The Lab MMMF characterizes itself as "never boring or foreseeable", and its musical methodology is something of an electronic melting pot, filled with sharp layering. If their music may be described as a bit conventional and whimsical, it's because "In the Lab" seems to be just that - superficially simple tracks with titles to match. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_mmmf_itl.htm
Combichrist - Today We Are All Demons The fourth full-length from prolific producer Andy LaPlegua's electro-industrial incarnation, Combichrist, is nothing like what it could be. If it were a beverage, it would be Combichrist Lite - half the sleaze, none of the conviction. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_combichrist_twaad.htm

Reviews
no Xivic - Yksityisyys Three years in the making, "Yksityisyys" is a mercurial set of seven compositions upon which Kyllönen has instilled a careful architecture in both form and color. Using a mixture of drone work, found sounds, fields recordings and musique concrète, he has generated an auditory experience that surpasses standard visualizations of reality, instead nullifying worldly imagery and emphasizing emotional perception and vision, organic duality and density. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_noxivic_y.htm
Caustic - This Is Jizzcore Love him or hate him, you have to respect Matt "Caustic" Fanale. He is doing what he enjoys, for himself, not catering to the whims of an excessively fickle audience. And, what's more, he's doing it with style. "This is Jizzcore" may not be the most political, nor even the most conceptual album that the contemporary industrial scene has spawned, but it is easily and undoubtedly one of the most entertaining. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_caustic_tij.htm
Dalglish - Ideom In all "Ideom" is a very challenging CD, but a complete one at the same time. It all works so well together that it is hard to pick out specific tracks to listen to - it demands your full attention. Anyone into the darker side of electronic music would be wise to go and buy this. Recommended for those who like to be scared by their CD collection. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_dalglish_i.htm
Alfredo Costa Monteiro - Anatomy Of Inner Place Each track acts as an aural snapshot, evoking an almost voyeuristic feeling, tinged with the uncomfortable thought that this could be a recording of your own home. The layered sounds are alien, jarring, becoming almost unbearable, then fading suddenly to nothing... and the silence they leave behind is deafening. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_alfredocostamonteiro_aoip.htm

A digital-only release, it is best described as (dark) ambient, drone and experimental, with plenty of attention given to gazing into static noise and abyssal space alike. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_inversioneffect_abh.htm Alter Der Ruine - The Giants From Far AwayNoncommittal, good for a few laughs and brashly obnoxious. In fact, it's a great backtrack for the kind of parties you feel guilty about attending afterwards, which is most likely exactly what Alter der Ruine set out to achieve with "Giants From Far Away". Grinding beats and rough as hell. What more could you actually want from modern industrial? http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_alterderruine_tgffa.htm Ensslin - Holocaust In Heaven"Holocaust in Heaven" leaves the listener with a similar feeling to what one experiences when seeing Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" for the first time: the soul thrills to the fantastic beauty it is confronted with, but at the same time recoils from the chillingly horrific aspects contained within the visuals. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_ensslin_hih.htm LinksRecently addedhttp://www.waveformrecords.com/ - Waveform Records Recommendedhttp://www.jamesgunn.com/pg-porn - James Gunn PG-Porn, for those that love everything about porn, except for the sex.

There's so much mainstream potential in this album that The Other Colors really deserve all the attention they can get. www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_theothercolors_361.htm The Synthetic Dream Foundation - Behind the Gates of Horn and IvoryAdministering a daily dose of "Behind the Gates of Horn and Ivory" can negate losing complete faith in the existence of people who mastered the fine art of creating the perfect medium between infectiously catchy electro beats and hauntingly ominous melodies. www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_tsdf_btgohai.htm Synapscape - Again"Again" is definitely one of the better-constructed industrial records released in recent times. For the most part, it will satisfy raging beat addicts, but there is enough substance in its technicality to maintain interest amongst those who prefer to listen than to dance. www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_synapscape_a.htm V/A - Pangaea Noise - an international compilation"Pangaea Noise" is what the name indicates, a compilation of international experimental and noise sound-art - a rather interesting and varied one at that. Extremely energetic, it is detailed in the extreme and the result of a seemingly perfectionist approach to sound creation and composition, an approach which combines technical proeficiency and unrestrained but methodic experimentation, the result of which is truly unique. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_endif.htm ReviewsSkinwell - TunnelsA tension-filled combination built from heavily manipulated layers. There are sounds for which the origin leaves a lot of room to be discussed, and at other moments, heavy guitar-drone layers, which bring back memories from Maeror Tri of the noisy output of Troum. This is an album that does not have one boring moment, because every track has something different than the others. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_skinwell_t.htm Conure - StreamThis new release from Californian musician Mark Wilson is basically focused on his work with soundscapes and noise manipulation more than on any kind of musical composition work as one may understand it. More ambient noise oriented and rougher than his previous works it proves Conure as one of the numerous projects that deserve some enthusiasm in a noise scene that becomes richer and richer these days. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_conure_s.htm Stendeck - SonnambulaSome albums prove that you don't necessarily have to sing or to write lyrics to tell stories through your music; instrumental tracks can become as descriptive and touching as songs. With "Sonnambula", Stendeck brilliantly succeeds in this endeavour. Without a doubt, here comes one of the 'not to be missed' records of this year's beginning. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_stendeck_s.htm Waste Disposal Machine - Interference"Interference" is not the easiest album to listen to. It's soft, unobtrusive and beautifully put together, but it slides past your senses far too easily. However, once you've taken yourself in hand and forced yourself to pay close attention, you realize just how good it actually is. It's actually a bit of a paradox - it's so easily accessible that it just ingratiates itself into your daily personal soundtrack without leaving a ripple. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_wastedisposalmachine_i.htm InnerPartySystem - InnerPartySystemInnerPartySystem is an American quartet from Pennsylvania that has just released a self-titled debut album. Singer Patrick Nissley appears to be as involved in the programming as band-mates Kris Barman and Jesse Cronan, and together with drummer Jared Piccone, they all seem to do additional vocals, which probably makes them a tight unit. They claim to be an electronic rock band, and once you hear their album you understand why. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_innerpartysystem_ips.htm V/A - 12. Elektrisch FestivalIt all comes down to three distinct target audiences that will get this album: old-school EBM, people that attended the actual show and want a keepsake, or die-hard collectors that want to show off their hand-numbered copy from a limited run of 500 discs. If you're really just in it for the music, though, one would suggest individual albums over this compilation, purely thanks to the low-quality sound reproduction. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_12ef.htm Snareburst - Alpha DemoIt's its attitude which brings Snareburst down from really solid, well-produced intellectual dance music, in the vein of Autechre, to the level of merely standard, technically adequate electronica fare. It feels unapproachable, elitist and overly intellectual, without enough pure creative passion to carry the music to an emotional level in the listener. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_snareburst_ad.htm Storehttp://www.connexionbizarre.net/store/s_cbpin001.htm"][img]http://www.connexionbizarre.net/store/s_cbpin001_small.jpg" width="125" height="125" class="img_thumb" /] Connexion Bizarre PinsState your indivuality and rhythmical reverberation with this set of five one-inch Connexion Bizarre buttons! :papercutz - Ultravioleta rmx's Containing one song and four mixes of the same track can be a dangerous game on the value for money stakes, but this is an excellent release all in all. "Ultravioleta" is a wonderfully cut-up trip of spangly synth lines and chords with broken beats, with a massive nod towards Apex Twin, Deep Forest, Peter Gabriel and a whole host more - all in one track. It's uplifting, energising and refreshing. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_papercutz_u.htm
Art of Sampling - My Definition of Sound Vol.1 Without doubt accessible, uncomplicated and appealing from the standpoint of lounge ambience, its jazz-saturated IDM flavor riddled with formative clues pointing toward Art of Sampling's musical heritage. It is not, by any means, an album in the formal sense - it is a beat record, a demonstration, in fewer than 40 installments, of inspiration, method and product. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_artofsampling_mdos1.htm
Roel Meelkop - An Ear For Numbers While the concept of field recordings is understandable, some may see it as a waste of time and energy unless you are going to add it to something worthwhile. This is effectively a CD of near silence - there surely has to be more that can be done with this medium? http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_roelmeelkop_aefn.htm

Reviews
Marching Dynamics - The Workers Party Of Haiti Somewhat weird, in the sense that the central idea seemed to be to kind of randomly throw 'stuff' together, and give it a nice smooth 'organic flow', "The Workers Party Of Haiti" does encompass a fairly bizarre range of musical stylings. Marching Dynamics bring together random sounds that don't seem to belong with one another and flawlessly makes them work together. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_marchingdynamics_twpoh.htm
Syn- / E.3151 - Manolo on Juliet With "Manolo on Juliet", Syn- and E.3151 succeeded in creating a memorable and captivating experience which thrives on the listener's imagination and which can be revisited over and over again, each visit revealing and giving different meanings to the story of Manolo. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_syne3151_moj.htm
Erdem Helvacioglu - Wounded Breath Five tracks cover over an hour of musique concrète with a quality that is quite rare. "Wounded Breath" doesn't have any boring moments at all, it is very well produced and all five pieces are very worthwile. There are sounds to explore and stories to follow. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_erdemhelvacioglu_wb.htm
Kreuzer - In Hoc Signo Vinces Despite his relative youth, Israeli producer Arsenicum has managed, with "In Hoc Signo Vinces", to create a very worthwhile addition to the lexicon of dark and martial ambient music. Stirring, evocative and colder than a Svalbard winter, Kreuzer's debut album is off to a grand start. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_kreuzer_ihsv.htm
Alaska Highway - Closure Not really an album with high and lows but still an enjoyment to listen. It makes you wonder what more Alaska Highway could have accomplished if this chapter hadn't been closed. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_alaskahighway_c.htm
I Am Immune - Entropy Mixing new electronics with some classic synthpop elements and adding a generous dash of rock guitar, I Am Immune offer a strong collection of tracks for their debut release. On the basis of this, their future releases should be worth looking out for. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_iamimmune_e.htm
Kilowatts - Love On Saturn This release doesn't really work well as an EP, because you're just left hoping to hear more of what Killowatts has to offer. While it is amusing to see someone trying to run one-too-many loops over a house beat, it isn't as attention grabbing as one might wish. Perhaps it would work as a full-length release though. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_kilowatts_los.htm
Koolmorf Widesen - Melodies Fork Now As far as this release goes, it wanders too much in the 'just plain average' range. You'd be better off having Venetian Snares "Winter in the Belly of the Snake" on your headphones, whilst playing The Flashbulb's "Kirlian Selections" on your stereo. At the same time. Kirdec - Das Gemeinsame Schicksal Named presumably after the poem by Friedrich Schiller ("Shared Fate"), this short EP from Kirdec A.K.A. C-drik presents a dark-ambient styled take on dubstep and breakbeat. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_kirdec_dgs.htm
Sikhara - Anduni Sikhara are by all accounts a prolific live act, and this album - inspired apparently by Armenian and Georgian culture - provided the material for their most recent tour. While the CD is certainly intense, it left me suspecting that their brand of percussive, sweaty modern-primitivism would work much more effectively on stage. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_sikhara_a.htm

Reviews
Kibuka - Dystopia Kibuka is a new project from sound mastermind Dean Dennis, formerly of Clock DVA and, more recently, Nohno. A logical successor to the latter's "Metropolis" (2006), Kibuka's "Dystopia" takes the sumptuous bass and retro-electronic, tech-ambient feel of that pithy release and articulates it further. Kibuka delivers nostalgia with a 21st-century twist, and fans of early IDM and electro-industrial are advised not to let this one slip by. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_kibuka_d.htm
To Mega Therion - The Blood Rituals As an introduction to a quite unique artist, this is really, really impressive. I suspect I would have to see them in the live arena to be able to fully appreciate some of the influences (and of course the image), but as some extreme listening this will do fine just for now - roll on the album! http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_tomegatherion_tbr.htm
Hoarfrost - Ground Zero "Ground Zero" is thus a prime example of uneasy listening music - a musical representation of fallout and not something one can ever be comfortable with. It is thought provoking and unsettling, and this is why Hoarfrost may never be hugely popular. If anything, "Ground Zero" is anti-ambient. Instead of creating atmosphere, it entirely destroys it. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_hoarfrost_gz.htm
Lingouf - Area Keloza With "Area Keloza", French hardcore/gabber artist Lingouf joins the ranks of the Ant-Zen catalogue. Recognized for his unique sound within hardcore and breakcore categories, Lingouf's Vincent Ingouf is a competent visual artist as well, reflected both in the subversively cartoonish and imaginative album artwork, and in a fascinating website full of clever animations and hidden puzzles. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_lingouf_ak.htm
Wolfskin - O Ajuntar Das Sombras There is little to fault on this album, perhaps only a slight lack of originality common to many artists in various genres, as well as a small degree of repetition throughout, but the overall album is very well executed and an enjoyable listen. I would certainly be interested to hear more from this intriguing artist before he calls it a day, and I'd recommend this album to any dark ambient fan looking for some 'new' artists. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_wolfskin_oads.htm
Candiru - Piscatorial Terror Even though it's sort of fun to listen to, in a high school rebellion sort of way, one has to question the wisdom behind afflicting the public in general with further offerings from an act that has, up until this point, hardly created a stir within either the industrial or death metal scenes, despite a number of split and solo releases over the years. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_candiru_pt.htm
V/A - Manoeuvres 2: A Collection of Vancouver Electronica It isn't often that you run into an album that you can't seem to dislike, even when there is nothing special about it. This album is worth listening to - and you will find yourself doing just that, again and again. It is a charm unique to albums with this distinction and is not unlike comfort food. However, just like mother's cookies, you find it a pleasant experience, but it may be lacking in anything nutritive. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_m2acove.htm

Reviews
V/A - Emerging Organisms Vol.2 This release as a whole is an absolute joy, and it certainly shows Tympanik as one of the major labels to look towards for consistently interesting and varied releases. It's also good for those of you who may have become a little jaded with electronic music in general; if this is the standard we can be expecting now and in the future, then you have no reason to worry. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_eo2.htm
Mika Goedrijk - Pellicules Although it is probably closer to electronica than the output Goedrijk is known for, "Pellicules" is so beautifully conceived and executed with such precision that it draws the attention. Deceptively addictive, this album really is a cohesive exploration of a concept that couldn't be further from the collection of discarded ideas or sounds if was conceived from. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_mikagoedrijk_p.htm
This Morn' Omina - Momentum of Singular Clarity With this release a lot of people will focus on the vocal element as it's a really rather unexpected addition; although the tracks without vocals show more interesting range, one can see the "Momentum" tracks being very popular. It's interesting to see that This Morn' Omina have stepped out of their comfort sound and tried something different, something which will most certainly work well in a live setting. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_thismornomina_mosc.htm
V/A - Get A:Head "Expect the unexpected" could well be the motto for the Mash Up Records label and artists collective and their new release, the 5-track 12" compilation"Get A:Head" illustrates this quite well with a music selection that some would consider paradoxical. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_gah.htm
Contagious Orgasm - One Drop Water Whereas Japan is often more well known for its impossibly extreme noise scene, certain bizarre artists such as Contagious Orgasm have been operating for many years, throwing all manner of unexpected sounds into highly unique and often very infuriating compositions. But there comes a time when it really doesn't hurt to reign in those indulgent excesses and write some tunes, all within an experimental context of course. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_contagiousorgasm_odw.htm
Mobthrow - Mutant Dubstep Vol.3 In short, while it may not save what was a passable series of releases, this is a highlight and a more than acceptable conclusion to it. Perhaps it is a herald for future work by Mobthrow including, hopefully, a full-length release... http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_mobthrow_md3.htm
l'Ascenseur - 40 Below It could just be that he's been working on this first release for some time, honing each track until he's satisfied, but he does manage to avoid the pitfall, to which many electronica artists fall prey, of having common instrumentation running throughout. On "40 Below" each track is an entity in itself, not really part of a larger picture, and this is possibly the most positive aspect of the record. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_ascenseur_40b.htm
U.S.O. Project - InharmoniCity For technicality, "InharmoniCity" is quite the achievement, and U.S.O. richly deserves any and all accolades they receive in this category. As far as simple listening pleasure goes, however, they fail miserably. This lack of accessibility to the public at large makes "InharmoniCity" an entirely personal achievement, and one that will probably never receive the attention U.S.O.'s far-reaching, progressive vision could. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_usoproject_ic.htm

Laurent Perrier - Sound On Probation Some labels exist essentially as a vehicle for the output of a single artist and his several project. To date, that is the case with French label Sound On Probation owned by Laurent Perrier. In the 80's and 90's Perrier was part of the industrial projects Nox and Cape Fear and ran the Odd Size label, more recently he is known for work in the field of choreographic music and for releases under the names Zonk't and Heal. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_soundonprobation.htm
Reviews
Lingouf - Kovoclak Somebody once described this album as sounding like 'a pack of fluffy but insane bunnies armed with steak knives while high on speed & LSD going on a murder spree - sort of an even more twisted version of Happy Tree Friends'. A fitting, and perhaps hard to top, description. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_lingouf_k.htm
MCKMN - Orphan Ristophe This is a debut album, so of course there are a few elements, such as mixing and production, that could be refined and developed in future works, but without a doubt "Orphan Ristophe" is a solid debut. If you like sad/cinematic/melodic music and/or trip hop, but you like upbeat, um, beats, then you should check this out. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_mckmn_or.htm
Fractional - Still Life? Each track plods along somewhere between whimsy and melancholy without ever really breaching the boundaries of either. With the short track lengths (nothing makes it to four minutes), there is not much time for building or evolution. I'd say the biggest flaw here is that none of the tracks really go anywhere. It's just a collection of sort-of-interesting-sounds that play for a while and then stop. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_fractional_sl.htm

Aidan Baker & The Infant Cycle - Rural Sprawl Powerful and inspiring, "Rural Sprawl" is the kind of music you'll want to get lost in, not in the sense of being "lost" but rather allowing these stunning pieces to flow through your entire body, seeping into the unreachable corners of your mind, and enabling you to float away on whatever implausible daydream you care to have. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_aidanbakerinfantcycle_rs.htm
Prometheus Burning - Plague Called HuMANity From the first awed glimpse of Paul McCarroll's surreal cover art to the initial throbbing anguished moans of "The Box", this latest album from what are quite possibly one of the most exciting acts in industrial and electro music today leaves the listener with some fairly high expectations. Expectations that are, for the most part, fulfilled very well. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_prometheusburning_pch.htm
Keef Baker - Pen Fifteen Where "Pen Fifteen" experiments largely with combining various forms of guitar and electronica, "Light City" is more for the electronic purist and no-holds-barred after-hours fun. If "Light City" is representative of his live appearances, Baker must deliver some interesting sets with a careful balance of furious rhythms contrasted with gentler tones. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_keefbaker_pf.htm
Blindhaed - Whether That Will Make People Want To Become Archaeologists, We'll Have To See Twenty minutes of highly artistically responsible sounds, which is for some people more interesting than for others. The guts it takes to release a single-sided LP in the era of CDs and MP3s is extremely praiseworthy and a larger future is ahead of this Belgian/Indonesian collaborative effort. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_blindhaed_wtwmpwtbawhts.htm

Tonikom - The Sniper's Veil Tonikom's sophomore release on Hymen Records, "The Sniper's Veil", is a wholly satisfying exercise in breakbeats. Most everything appearing on Tonikom's latest shows fantastic cohesion, simplicity, musicianship and, it must be said, an intriguingly feminine essence. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_tonikom_sv.htm
Necrotek - Menschfeind It must also be said that this album is perhaps something of an anomaly - one that wears its influences so obviously has no business twisting new and interesting sounds from such familiar raw materials in such style as this. As a result - particularly if you hanker for the days of industrial of the old school - this is an intriguing and essential purchase. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_necrotek_m.htm
the Gothsicles - Sega Lugosi's Dead If you can leave all seriousness behind and enjoy "Sega Lugosi's Dead" for a really fun CD that doesn't mind poking fun at just about everything, then you'll love this latest offering by the Gothsicles. It's sheer genius in stupid form! http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_gothsicles_sld.htm
Amesha Spenta - Amesha Spenta "Amesha Spenta" as an album is relentless, even in its ambient passages, and however sedate the bpm might be. It is dense, secretive, and part of a floating realm, suspended between the occidental and oriental with chime-like melodies and shivering tones, supported by spine tingling beat structures. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_ameshaspenta_as.htm
Sister Loolomie & Kryptogen Rundfunk - [w]interloop[s] Each track plods along somewhere between whimsy and melancholy without ever really breaching the boundaries of either. With the short track lengths (nothing makes it to four minutes), there is not much time for building or evolution. I'd say the biggest flaw here is that none of the tracks really go anywhere. It's just a collection of sort-of-interesting-sounds that play for a while and then stop. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_sisterloolomiekryptogenrundfunk_w.htm
High Wycombe - Reverser If you like Haujobb's eclecticism, chances are you'll appreciate "Reverser". Otherwise you'll at least admire the astonishing exercise of faithfully integrating some strongly contrasting influences into one polished product. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_highwycombe_r.htm

Anhedonia - Ontology "Ontology" is a gorgeous piece of work, with massive emphasis on mood, but its presence is somewhat muted and tentative, hardly as sure of itself as previous works. A pity, really, because this is one talented artist indeed, and this recording doesn't quite fulfill expectations based on his previous offerings. It's still very good, though, just difficult to listen to. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_anhedonia_o.htm
Kryptogen Rundfunk + Hladna - Rokton + Formanta This work's final result are three long untitled tracks, meditative and disturbing at the same time, which will please all the lovers of the ambient-noise and drone genres - all those who enjoy good sound design more than any kind of enchanting melodies or pounding beats. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_kryptogenrundfunkhladna_rf.htm
Niko Skorpio - Psylocibe Necrophilia Based on a pretty unusual concept: the raw materials used for all of its tracks are old tapes of the artist's early bands from the 80's (essentially heavy metal demos and live bootlegs), which have been completely destroyed, cut, re-edited and processed to eventually obtain some brand new material, which absolutely doesn't sound like heavy metal anymore, but more fits into the dark ambient and drone genres. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_nikoskorpio_pn.htm
Taphephobia - Anomie On one side of the coin they hit the nail on the head and are gripping, intriguing and magical; on the flip side they drift a little too much into the mundane and dull. The best parts of this album, however, do make up for a lot of their failings. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_taphephobia_a.htm
Ministry of Rites - Grid When Ministry of Rites do get it right (and they have the ability), it is genuinely engaging and listenable; it's just that fifty percent of the time they just seem to faff about too much. Something for those with very eclectic tastes that disappointingly just comes somewhere short of approaching other audiences and fails. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_ministryofrites_g.htm

Amesha Spenta - an interview with Sebastien Béné-Le Touarin A newcomer to the French label/collective Audiotrauma, Amesha Spenta welcomes the listener into a universe of distorded progressive electronic music with ethno-cultural references to the Zoroastrian religion of ancient Persia. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_ameshaspenta.htm
Reviews
Cisfinitum - Nevmenosis Voronovsky describes his music as 'metaphysical ambient', a description which may not be that off the mark if one is to judge by this release. Throughout "Nevmenosis", Cisfinitum manages to convey a feeling of timelessness and distance, showing the listener hints of a greater whole and different perspectives which could not be described in any other way but through music. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_cisfinitum_n.htm
v4w.enko - Harmonic Ratio Nothing about "Harmonic Ratio" suggests any kind of harmony, in a conventional musical sense or otherwise; this is a decidedly uncomfortable, nerve-wracking experience. But then you consider Kvitnu's slogan: "High Blood Pressure Music" and realise it's not meant to be calming. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_v4wenko_hr.htm
Murder By Static - Danceland Dead "Danceland Dead" distills the love one may (or may not) have for late-90s jungle, and filters it through a more updated feel. While one may have a hard time remembering the individual tracks, it's a great album to listen to as a whole and highly recommended for dicing vegetables or angering your neighbors while drinking your morning coffee. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_murderbystatic_dd.htm

Reviews
Kreuzer / Surma - Viltis As far as dark ambient music goes, "Viltis" is perhaps one of the most exciting and stirring releases in recent times, despite the relative freshness of the two talented producers it showcases. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_viltis.htm
Orchestramaxfieldparrish presents ÆRA - To the Last Man / Index of Dreaming Themed around memories and dreams respectively, this double pick up on themes from Fazio's Orchestramaxfieldparrish neo-classical ambient project, with an emphasis on the droning, textural electronic elements of his music; both discs exhibiting short spells of more immediacy and anxiety, appropriate for the differing moods and emotions that can be associated with memories or dreams alike. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_orchestramaxfieldparrish_ttlmiod.htm
Totakeke - The Things That Disappear When I Close My Eyes The most (guilt-free) enjoyable aspect of this album is its use of dissonance (whether intentional or not) and of atonal arpeggios. At its stronger moments "The Things That Disappear When I Close My Eyes" has a slight Anton Webern feel to it. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_totakeke_tttdwicme.htm
Terra Sancta - Disintegration Acceptable, unfortunately, is not synonymous with memorable. In an aural universe built primarily out of drones and wind sweeps, it is easy to travel the route of convention and fall prey to mediocrity. In Terra Sancta's case, the addition of epic orchestral tones would transform this musical one night stand into a stand up release. For now it remains a cocktease. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_terrasancta_d.htm
Nommo Ogo - Space Cross An experimental project with a fondness for acoustic instruments, abstract soundscapes and drones, Nommo Ogo is a collective of multi-sensory artists and musicians with, interestingly enough, Alaskan origins. In addition to their recorded material, core members Djynnx Ogo, Eyebrane and Higerous Johannes view the performance of their live electronic and electro-acoustic music as an essential characteristic of their work. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_nommoogo_sc.htm

Connect_icut - They Showed Me The Secret Beaches Over the course of his several releases Macklin has developed his own sound, utilizing instruments processed through Max/MSP. He has become adept at making the electronic sound and feel very organic which is why, in a world of plastic-sounding computer music, this is something very refreshing to listen to. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_connecticut_tsmtsb.htm
Flatline Skyline - All Sound / No Vision A multifaceted album that confronts listeners with pop tendencies, taking inspiration from the sharp beats, brimming bass and lyrical delivery of indie rock's more electronic leanings, and similarly finds substance with a blended new wave versus old industrial feel. Flatline Skyline overall benefits from its oddly familiar genre-bending forms and passionate articulation. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_flatlineskyline_asnv.htm
Rubik - Carrion EP "Brevity is the soul of wit" is a saying that also applies to small bite-sized releases like this limited edition three-track 12" by the relatively obscure London-based artist Rubik. "Carrion EP" is one of those things that have a touch of the unexpected, hinting at a lot of potential and quite a few ideas, but pretty much stopping short of giving away the artist's failings. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_rubik_c.htm
UberByte - Dos "Dos" may not be clever, it may not be original and it may not be the best production quality available in an oversaturated genre, but it is fun. This is musical entertainment for those of a darker bent, but not too dark to preclude having a sense of humour. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_uberbyte_dos.htm

Bella Lune - Abstracted Visions Pleasant and quirky as it may be when one begins to listen to it, halfway through chances are that the listener will get a nagging feeling of déjà vu. And here lies the main problem with this release, a definite lack of variety - something which might not be such an issue if this had been released as an EP. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_bellalune_av.htm

:papercutz - Lylac Very much recommended to those with a taste for electronica or pop music with a twist - pop music doesn't have to be the cheesy stuff you find on the charts; sometimes you get albums like this, filled with melodies, rhythms and vocals, that uplifts, inspires and somehow restores a little faith that music can still surprise you and still give you something new. Sweet, soothing and intoxicating... http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_papercutz_l.htm
SE - Epiphora With an altogether ethereal feel, this isn't like clear-cut IDM, as instruments aren't buried under a slab of unintelligible glitches - in fact, it's the glitches that take a back seat and lets the instrumentation take you somewhere different. An absolute must have for those with a Gridlock-shaped loss in their lives, and for everyone else, this is just recommended to show you that electronic can be tear-inducingly beautiful. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_se_e.htm
Coreline - Bone and Blood as Stone and Mud It's sometimes been hard to reconcile the two facets of Chris McCall's output - the seemingly ultra-serious music and the joyously insane live shows. But here, somehow, we may have the missing link at last. Like some kind of mad scientist (or inventor?) anything that may work is hurled into the mix - presumably from a safe distance just in case it blows up in his face - and it's to his immense credit that the vast majority of these ideas actually work http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_coreline_babasam.htm
Cyclotimia - Music For Stockmarkets A challenging soundscape with some excellent moments of chill, dark electronica featuring the unique sounds of vintage Soviet equipment and field recordings. It's like the reserved, avant-garde cousin of Oil 10, the guy that sits in the corner somewhere on the edge of serenity and anxiety while everyone else is out back having a beer. http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_cyclotimia_mfs.htm
Surma - Allocutio Surma's initial foray into the desolate world of martial ambient electronics, on the split EP "Viltis" (shared with fellow Eastern Front grouch-merchants, Kreuzer) was exciting listening, hinting at a potential far beyond the pedestrian doom-and-gloom peddled en masse by similar artists in the genre. Thus, the debut album, "Allocutio" has more than its fair share of hype to live up to... http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_surma_a.htm
Aphorism - Surge Fresh from Chicago comes Aphorism's "Surge", a conventional electronica album that somehow fell in with a bad crowd and came out reeking of industrial and IDM fallout.
